Vintage Red Checked Torchon

Monogrammed French Linen

I always stop for torchons.  I'll work my way through a pile looking for the ones that are just right -- never too stained or too worn.  This one checked all my boxes: classic red checks, beautifully softened cotton, and a hand-stitched monogram that makes it entirely its own.

I use old French torchons everywhere -- in the kitchen, folded into a bread basket, under a bowl of fruit, or mixed into a casual table setting.  They were made to be useful, and I think they're even better after years of use.

I found this one early on a Sunday morning at the brocante in L'isle-sur-la Sorgue. This market gets crowded quickly, so I like to arrive before everyone else does. One vendor had stacks of wonderful old kitchen linens right in the middle of the market. Naturally, I stopped.
