Set of Three Monogrammed French Torchons

Vintage French Torchons

I could not leave these three torchons behind.   The cheerful striped borders, beautifully softened cotton, and tiny hand-stitched monogram feel so very French.  Best of all, all three have stayed together through the years.

I use old French torchons everywhere -- in the kitchen, folded into a bread basket, under a bowl of fruit, or mixed into a casual table setting.  They were made to be useful, and I think they're even better after years of use.

I found this set at the Saturday brocante in Aix-en-Provence. The vendor had stacks of old linens to work through and was generous with her time -- and with my French. Somewhere between the piles, I learned a few words for stitches and fabrics.
