French Architectural Salvage
A lovely and unusual pair of hand-carved and gilded wooden architectural fragments, each with a winged cherub surrounded by deeply carved leaves, flowers, and fruit.
The gilding has softened and worn beautifully with age, revealing glimpses of the wood and underlying finish. Turn them over and their original purpose becomes more apparent: the backs are flat and unfinished, suggesting they were once mounted as decorative elements on furniture or interior woodwork.
Somewhere along the way, a previous owner added simple hardware so they could be hung on the wall. I rather love them that way.

There is a woman with a fabulous booth tucked into the back corner at the Faire de Chatou. Beautiful things hang from the walls, with crates of still more treasures hidden under the tables. In other words — this booth takes time. She loves her things and is generous with their stories. I look forward to seeing her --and her cat-- each time I go.
